William Katz:  Urgent Agenda

HILLAFEE – We reported that Hillary Clinton has signed with a speaker agency.  Her fee will be $200,000 a speech, the same as her husband charges.  We have achieved gender equity at last!   But I'm personally repelled.  To say that the Clintons have cashed in on their government positions is a vast understatement.  And we have to ask what organization, or cause, or country, has that kind of money for a speaker.  Bill Clinton has earned an estimated $75-million in speaking fees since leaving office.  Who is he indebted to?  What favors are expected?  Hillary Clinton might be president.  I want a list of those who have paid these vast fees to her and to her husband.  We will never get it.  But enterprising reporters, if there are any, can simply trace the speaking engagements.  I have a feeling that many of them will have "Middle East oil interests" written all over them.

LIBERAL PAPER FOR SALE – The New York Times Company has put the Boston Globe up for sale.  The Globe is like a junior New York Times, if even a bit snottier.  It is having a tough time financially.  Boston is a liberal town, but many potential readers are not.  The Globe, like The Times, makes no attempt to appeal to them.  It is interested in the left-wing Harvard crowd.  The paper also has pension liabilities.  I think it will be a tough sale, and, even if made, will result in a net loss for The Times over what it paid for The Globe originally.

I KID YOU NOT – Finally, what we've all been waiting for, an app that will let you keep tweeting after you cross to the other side and reap your final reward.   When your heart stops beating, you'll keep tweeting,” says the new application’s tagline.  The app is called LivesOn.  As described by one news source, "the service will utilize advanced analysis of your main Twitter feed, to carefully select appropriate subjects, likes, or articles that would have been likely to interest you, posting them on your behalf for your friends to read."  Of course, the IRS may claim that if you're still tweeting, you still have to file.

OH DEAR – John Kerry has given his first major speech since becoming secretary of state, and he emphasized...global warming.  He said, "Because if we don’t rise to meet it, rising temperatures and rising sea levels will surely lead to rising costs down the road. If we waste this opportunity, it may be the only thing our generations are remembered for. We need to find the courage to leave a far different legacy."  Right.  And if we spend trillions on it and find the whole thing was based on flawed silence, what kind of a legacy is that?  I thought that maybe Kerry had changed.  I'm not encouraged.
