William Katz: Urgent Agenda

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 10:09 P.M. ET: NO TIME, NO TIME – President Obama, apparently feeling heat from sane people, has cancelled his meeting with Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, he of the Muslim Brotherhood, previously scheduled for this week. Obama had scheduled the meeting despite claims that he had no time for a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It apparently dawned on the White House that appearances weren't very good, especially right before an election. What Obama would do after an election raises chilling thoughts. ANOTHER OOPS – The Romney campaign is properly jumping on another Obama gaffe, this one committed in the president's interview with Steve Kroft on "60 Minutes." Obama described the murder of American diplomatic officers in Libya as a "bump in the road." As Charles Krauthammer noted, had Romney said that it would have become a three-day headline. The mainstreamers are trying to ignore the remark, but Romney is hitting Obama for it. More hitting please. Obama has fumbled several recent interviews. CLOSE IN FLORIDA – A new poll shows Florida to be essentially a dead heat. The Miami Herald/El Nuevo Herald/Tampa Bay Times poll has Obama at 48%, Romney at 47%. There are new polls in other states showing the race far closer than the mainstreamers would like to have us believe. I personally think that a tied poll means an advantage for Romney because his supporters are more motivated to come to the polls this year. Clearly, the upcoming debates, which start a week from today, will be crucial. OH, NOT AGAIN – Elizabeth Warren, who has had some ethical questions to deal with in her Massachusetts Senate race against Scott Brown, apparently has a new one, and one that could dwarf the others. It has been revealed that Warren, who fancies herself the queen of consumer advocates, has been practicing law out of her office at the Harvard Law School. But she apparently doesn't have a license to practice law in Massachusetts. William Jacobson, at the great Legal Insurrection website writes that "there are at least two provisions of Massachusetts law Warren may have violated. First, on a regular and continuing basis she used her Cambridge office for the practice of law without being licensed in Massachusetts. Second, in addition to operating an office for the practice of law without being licensed in Massachusetts, Warren actually practiced law in Massachusetts without being licensed."
