SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 8:31 P.M. ET:

OBAMA POPULARITY SINKS – From ABC News:  "Barack Obama approaches his nomination for a second term with the lowest pre-convention personal popularity of an incumbent president in ABC News/Washington Post polls since the 1980s. He’s also at his lowest of the year among registered voters, with trouble among women.  Just 47 percent of registered voters in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll see Obama favorably overall, down 7 percentage points from his recent peak in April, while 49 percent rate him unfavorably. He’s numerically underwater in this group for the first time since February.  The decline has occurred entirely among women registered voters – from 57-39 percent favorable-unfavorable in April to a numerically negative 46-50 percent now."

POW-WOW SOUGHT WITH FAUXCAHONTAS – A group of native Americans, including the great grandson of Geronimo, is seeking a meeting with Massachusetts Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren so that Warren can explain her claims, thus far unsubstantiated, that she is Cherokee, or part Cherokee, or maybe 1/32nd Cherokee.  The request for a meeting comes as Warren, considered a rising star in the Democratic Party, is about to deliver a major speech before the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.

DEM PLATFORM DRAWS FIRE – The Democratic platform has, for the first time, omitted any mention of God.  In addition, the platform drops much of the pro-Israel language it used to carry routinely.  Both omissions are getting substantial attention across the internet and are drawing fire from Republicans.  The platform is the most left-wing document ever adopted by the Democratic party.

BRING BACK THE JUNK – A new study conducted by Stanford University has concluded that "going organic" in dietary choices brings very little, if any, health benefit.  The results may plunge Chief National Dietician Michelle Obama into crisis.  It may also cause angst at dinner conversations on the West Side of Manhattan and in Beverly Hills.  We hope federal aid to Stanford isn't cut off.
