SICKNESS – AT 8:37 A.M. ET:   There are stories all over the place that this could be the day for some "October surprises."  The soap opera is said to include "revelations" from Donald Trump about so-called "divorce papers" of the Obamas.  After the organ music, the soap opera continues in a Massachusetts courtroom, where the Boston Globe, a division of The New York Times Company, has apparently petitioned to unseal an old divorce case in which Mitt Romney testified.  Gloria Allred, West Coast bottom feeder and "celebrity lawyer," will presumably appear at the hearing, representing some shadow client.  We get this from London's Daily Mail, and stress that this must remain speculative and unproved reporting, until the events actually take place:

Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney's character will be called into question if explosive details of his sworn testimony at the divorce hearing of former Staples CEO Tom Stemberg, are released to the public today, it has been claimed.

Celebrity attorney Gloria Allred, who has promised an 'October surprise', is due in court in Canton, Massachusetts this morning for an application to have case records unsealed and a gagging order on all parties involved lifted.

The Boston Globe newspaper filed the application after reportedly receiving a tip-off that there was 'juicy information about Romney' in the sealed documents. The revelations are said to involve allegations about a child custody matter.

Polls show Romney and President Obama are neck-and-neck two weeks ahead of the election and Allred's claims may be perceived as the latest round in a tit-for-tat battle between supporters of the two candidates.

Yesterday it was reported that business tycoon Donald Trump had unearthed divorce papers of Michelle and Barack Obama that would be ‘bordering on gigantic' and could change the Presidential race.

This is all disgusting stuff.  It lowers the level of our debate and of the American presidency.  I doubt if the Boston Globe, one of the most liberal papers in the country, and Gloria Allred, really care.  The Globe's owner, The New York Times, tried to destroy John McCain in 2008 by publishing gossip about a rumored affair.  The story went nowhere.  Allred is the pits, a disgrace to her profession.  You've seen her often on TV.

As for Donald Trump, I do think he cares about the country, but I wish he wouldn't give us any "revelations."  If he does, I am confident that Mitt Romney will disassociate himself from them.

I'm also sure the Obama White House will express "shock" about any revelations about Mitt Romney.  But Allred was an Obama delegate to the Dem convention, and is a major Dem fundraiser.  She wouldn't be doing this without getting what Joan Crawford called "the big okay" from the boss.

Allred has a long history of trotting out female clients who claim to have revealing and damaging stories about high-profile men.

One of Allred's most famous clients includes a woman who accused former Tea Party presidential candidate Herman Cain of sexual assault.

Another famous client includes a woman who claimed California GOP candidate Meg Whitman knowingly employed her as an illegal immigrant housekeeper.

COMMENT:  Let's see what actually happens.   Yes, as we've said, Allred could do damage.  But the whole thing can backfire as well.  Americans may be repelled.

As we've also noted, Obama has a history of prying into the personal records of political opponents, and joining efforts to get personal records, as in divorce cases, unsealed.

Stand by for more.
