William Katz: Urgent Agenda

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 8:50 P.M. ET: THE "WAR ON WOMEN" – That has been the desperate theme of the pro-Obama media today. Both the Washington Post and The New York Times had major stories claiming that "women's issues" were back as a result of last night's debate. CNN almost went berserk, as if Obama had delivered unto them the gift of renewed talk of women's issues. Frankly, I don't buy it. Many of these reporters believe all American women think alike, and that all the ones who vote live in Washington, Manhattan or Beverly Hills. One CNN reporter actually said that Obama was winning the women's vote by double digits, when in fact the latest reputable survey shows the race essentially even among women. Women seem to be focusing more on the economy than on the "social" issues. ANOTHER ONE GONE – The Guardian, Britain's premier leftist newspaper, and a guide to party-line leftists around the world, is seriously considering ending its print edition. The Guardian at one time was one of the finest newspapers in the world, but lost its soul to the doctrinaire left and has been in decline for some years. It's remarkable that most of the major papers that have ended their print editions have been left-of-center papers. Maybe alienating half their readers just didn't work out. ATTACK THWARTED – The FBI thwarted a terrorist attack in New York today. An alleged Muslim terrorist tried to blow up the Federal Reserve building using a thousand-pound bomb. The accused guy didn't realize it, but the bomb was a fake, provided by the FBI after it infiltrated this chap's operation. He is identified as a student from Bangladesh who came to the U.S. specifically to carry out a terror attack. His goal apparently is Muslim domination of the entire world. Well, at least they think big. WILL THEY BE RIGHT AGAIN? – A University of Colorado team renowned for the accuracy of its presidential election predictions since 1980 now says that Mitt Romney has a 77% chance of winning the popular vote on election day. The team does not have a confidence prediction for the electoral college. Its predictions have never been wrong. Karl Rove said today that no one with Mitt Romney's current numbers has ever lost a presidential election. From their mouths to you know whose ears. October 17, 2012 |
