UH, MAYBE YOU'D BETTER RE-THINK THAT RESERVATION – AT 11:14 A.M. ET: The London summer Olympics will soon begin. They haven't gotten much press here, but that will change as soon as the TV cameras are turned on.
But London is in a country that is literally crawling with Islamists and their left-wing allies. There are major political figures who have a certain sympathy for the enemy...just as there were pro-Nazi elements in Britain in the 1930s.
And the country has been the target of several terrorist attacks.
So there is a huge security operation in progress to protect the Olympics. How effective is it? Read on, from the Telegraph:
An urgent inquiry has been launched into the £1 billion security operation at London's Olympic Park after a worker reportedly smuggled a fake bomb onto the site to expose flaws in its anti-terror defences.
The man, who has been employed at the site for several years, allegedly carried the artificial bomb in the cabin of his digger through two checkpoints without being searched by security staff.
Once inside, he was able to drive the package through the site, taking it past the velodrome before posing for a photograph with it outside the Olympic Stadium, The Sun on Sunday reported.
The stunt, 24 hours before 40,000 people attended the official opening of the stadium, was designed to show how vulnerable the site, which also includes the athletes' village, could be to a terrorist attack.
Fears that the international spectacle could be targeted by extremists have led organisers to spend £1 billion on security for the games including 23,700 guards, 14,000 troops at key times and an 11-mile electric fence which alone cost £80 million.
But the dummy bomber said he had become concerned after noticing that he was only searched by security when he entered the site in the mornings, and that he could enter and exit the grounds in his digger during the day without further checks.
COMMENT: Doesn't exactly inspire confidence, does it?
