SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 11:31 P.M. ET:

HILLARY – Hillary Clinton has entered NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan for treatment of a blood clot, which is apparently associated with the concussion she recently suffered.  The announcement said she'd be observed for 48 hours.   She had been expected to return to work this week.

THE HAGEL WATCH – Influential Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina predicted today that, if nominated for secretary of defense, Chuck Hagel would get very few Republican votes at the end of the confirmation process.  This is a pretty devastating comment, considering the fact that Hagel is a former Republican senator.  But his relations with his party have been strained, and it's clear that Graham was sending a message that confirmation would not be assured.  As we noted earlier today, there are stories circulating that Obama will nominate Hagel on New Year's Eve, tomorrow, but the president said today that he hasn't made a decision.

ASSAULT ON CHRISTIANS CONTINUES – A bomb has exploded in a Libyan Christian church, killing two people.  It is the lastest example of violence against Christians in the Muslim world, violence that now extends from Africa through Asia.  Western "human rights activists," and, incredibly, liberal Christian groups, have shown little interest.  It is not considered chic or "with it" to be concerned about persecution of Christians.
