SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 7:21 P.M. ET:

INCREDIBLE – Reader Chris Williams alerts us to the story of our State Department, at a time of fiscal distress at home, sending millions of dollars overseas to...save mosques.  This is, apparently, for "good will."  Yeah, right.  We've seen just how much the good will has bought.  Can you just imagine the reaction of left-wing groups if Washington sent funds overseas to save churches?  Why, the ACLU would crawl out of its bunker and riot.

ANOTHER SACRIFICE – A Navy SEAL was killed today in the successful rescue of an American doctor who'd been kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan.  Once again an American team did its job so well.  The doctor was one of a number of American volunteers who work in Afghanistan every day.  I haven't seen much news coverage of them, have you?

A TRAGEDY, ESPECIALLY AT HOLIDAY TIME – The number of Americans on food stamps continues to rise.  The latest figure, reflecting the month of September, shows  47,710,324 people enrolled in the program, an increase of 607,559 from the 47,102,765 enrolled in August.  What kind of economic recovery is this?  And food prices, one of the undercovered stories of this economy, also continue to rise, pushing more and more people onto food stamps.
