SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – AT 9:55 P.M. ET: THANK HEAVEN FOR LITTLE GIRLS? – Saudi Arabia is establishing a woman-only city so that its educated women can work freely. Ironically, Saudi Arabia has many educated women, but they are forbidden from working with men. So, the solution is a female-only city. Welcome to the tenth century. Isn't it progressive? I'd love to see the reaction of "feminist" groups to this. I'll be they find something to like in the new apartheid. After all, we must be multicultural. AND IN EGYPT – Human rights groups in Egypt are slamming a recent crackdown on the media by the new Muslim Brotherhood-controlled government. The new government is beginning to look a lot like the old dictatorship. Several journalists have been imprisoned for insulting the president. The Obama White House has thus far whitewashed the Brotherhood regime, but there are new reports that the regime wants to rewrite parts of the peace treaty with Israel, which would probably destroy it. Ah, the Arab spring. Isn't revolution just grand? THIS SAYS IT – A new Washington Post poll shows that 74% of respondents favor voter I.D. laws. These laws, designed to prevent voter fraud, are opposed by the Obama administration, which claims that they are simply techniques for suppressing minority voters. Eric Holder's Justice Department has gone into court against several states that have enacted I.D. laws. They generally require a valid photo I.D. to register to vote. Valid photo I.D.'s are available to every citizen, but opponents say that it's a greater burden on minorities to get them. Try figuring that one out. POSSIBLE? – Rasmussen, in the last few days, has shown some Republican progress in the swing state of Ohio. Rasmussen has the state dead even in Romney vs. Obama. Now it shows a dead heat in the Senate race between Democratic ultra-lib Senator Sherrod Brown and Republican challenger Josh Mandel. A Republican Senate pickup in Ohio would be spectacular. However, we caution that only Rasmussen is showing these results thus far. Other polls have shown a slight advantage for Obama and a large advantage for Brown. Stand by for newer polling.
